Please forgive my cynical approach to Sweden's third-largest city. We are not talking Favela-style gang wars, but Malmö continously seems to make headline news and often has to serve as a negative example when debating the migrant crises. Sweden among other countries is the top destination for migrants from failed states in Africa and the Middle East and in particular Malmö has been hit hardest among the big Swedish metropolitan areas. The day before I crossed over from Copenhagen there has been a shooting in a popular shopping mall, so I didn't have the best picture of the city in my mind when stepping of the Öresund Line in Malmö Central Station.

But you do not notice anything different from other (assumingly safer) Scandinavian cities. No hoards of long-bearded men congregating in the streets, no gang tags sprayed over ancient buildings and churches in the Old City Gamla Stan like in Ganland LA. Yes, there are parts of the city with high crime rates and areas where I would not go, but Malmö is a vibrant and nice city.. It’s known for its blend of old-world charm and modern innovation. The city’s historic heart, **Gamla Staden**, features charming cobblestone streets and landmarks like **Stortorget** and **Lilla Torg** squares. Malmö is also a city of architectural contrasts, with the futuristic **Turning Torso** skyscraper standing as an iconic symbol of its forward-thinking spirit.

Connected to Copenhagen by the Öresund Bridge, Malmö is a gateway to the rest of Scandinavia. The city is celebrated for its cultural diversity, green spaces like **Kungsparken** and **Slottsparken**, and its commitment to sustainability, showcased in neighborhoods like **Västra Hamnen**. With a lively arts scene, a rich culinary landscape, and a relaxed atmosphere, Malmö is a dynamic city that seamlessly merges tradition with modernity.
